Welcome to Phalen Lake

  • December 19, 2016

    Dear Families,

First I want to thank all of you for your participation in our Hmong and Karen New Year’s celebration! Phalen was in full celebration mode on Friday December 9th! Interim Supt. Thein, Chief Academic Officer Wilcox-Harris, Asst. Supts. Collins and Ott along with Board Directors Schumacher, Broderick, Ellis, Vue, and Vanderstein joined our celebration. I love walking through the building the morning of our New Year celebration experiencing all of the excitement and enthusiasm our children are expressing! They are eagerly getting dressed in their outfits, helping a friend find an outfit, or rehearsing for their special performance! Families, your role as an audience member, cook, outfit maker, chauffeur, and greatest fan of your child create the foundation for student confidence and excitement as they perform. Thank you again for sharing this special time with us!

With the start of the new year, we have some important dates ahead of us!

The goal for Phalen Lake Hmong Studies is for every child to contribute to and become part of our growing multicultural society. Through a special focus on the Hmong language, students explore culture, history, folklore, art, literature and traditions of many cultures. Our immersion program gives students the advantage of learning through two languages, English and Hmong.  Students build skills and knowledge to understand, speak, read and write in another language, and they gain respect for other cultures. In an increasingly global society, our school prepares students for a world in which we’re all connected.
