  • How to help your kids learn to rise above defeat

    Juanita Ortiz has seen the power of such an action. A Latino culture teacher at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet in St. Paul, Ortiz helped her fourth- and fifth-graders combat hate speech this year with something far mightier: thoughtful speech. The class wrote letters to President Obama, Donald Trump and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

  • Phalen Lake Teacher Wins 3M Innovative Economic Educator Award

    See Pha Vang, a teacher at Phalen Lake Hmong Studies Magnet School, will receive the 3M Innovative Economic Educator Award, which recognizes educators who use creative lessons to teach economics at the elementary and secondary levels.
